American Council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service
[Amerikanischer Rat der ehrenamtlichen Agentur fuer den Auslanddienst]
The American Counsil of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service was established in1943 to provide a means for consultation, coordination and planning, and to assure the maximum effective use of contributions by the American community for the assistance of people overseas. Through the Council, 43 member American voluntary agencies engaged in programs of active service overseas now coordinate their plans and activities both at home and abroad, not only among themselves but also with non-member agencies and governmental, inter-governmental and international organizations. Since 1955 the Council has operated the Technical Assistance Information Clearing House under contract with the United States Agency for International Development.
