BHL-E

Ausgeschrieben:
Biodiversity Heritage Library Europe
Beschreibung:
BHL-Europe accomplishs 28 natural history museums, botanical gardens and other partner institutions for three years in an ambitious and forward-looking EU project. The knowledge of existing animal and plant species is mainly in scientific books and journals of the past centuries combined and archived in the libraries of European natural history museums and botanical gardens. These resources are not yet adequately developed in digital form. The main objective of BHL-Europe is therefore to accomplish literature already digitized collections from across Europe.

VertNet

Beschreibung:
VertNet is a global museum database of vertebrate natural history collections. Four distributed database networks (MaNIS, HerpNET, ORNIS and FishNet) have been the result of a massive, collaborative effort within the museum and bioinformatics communities to make specimen data interoperable, mappable and publicly available. VertNet was formed as an umbrella project to meet the common needs of the participants, maintain the existing networks, add new members and develop integrated online technologies.

ELIXIR

Ausgeschrieben:
ELIXIR Europe
Beschreibung:
The purpose of ELIXIR is to construct and operate a sustainable infrastructure for biological information in Europe to support life science research and its translation to medicine and the environment, the bio-industries and society. Because of new technologies such as next-generation DNA sequencing, data produced in biological experiments is doubling every few months, and this rate is increasing. In addition, new types of data are constantly emerging that need to be integrated meaningfully. The collection, curation, storage, archiving, integration and deployment of biomolecular data is an immense challenge that cannot be handled by a single organisation or by one country alone, but requires international coordination.
