Funding opportunities

On this site you will find a compilation of funding possibilities for taxonomic research. We included programmes of the German government and the federal states, private foundations, European and international funding programmes. As to be expected, there are very few grants dedicated exclusively to taxonomic research. Moreover there are other useful links such as links to online search engines, which facilitate a targeted search for funding agents and their programmes.

  • Aktiver Informationsdienst (AiD) The AiD offers information on european sources of funding and to a lesser extent on German and international grants via email. The AiD provides free service to scientists and administrators working for state-funded research insitututions. The website also contains funding information.
  • Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), central, self-governing research funding organisation in Germany
  • Service Forschungsförderung - Leibnitz Universität Hanover (LUH) exensive database where you can search for funding institutions, modes of funding and disciplines.
  • Servicestelle für Elektronische ForschungsförderInformationen (ELFI) service center for information on german research funding. ELFI supports funding experts in their daily work and can also be used by researchers. ELFI collects relevant information on funding (e.g. calls and donor contacts).
  • BfN Förderdatenbank this database is specialized in nature conservation projects and offers funding information on EU programmes as well as programmes by the German government and federal states.
  • Bauer Stiftung the funding programme of the German foundation "Bauer-Stiftung" addresses young academics in life sciences (Post doctoral fellows).
  • Kulturstiftung des Bundes the initiative Fellowship Internationales Museum enables public museums and collections in Germany to employ top-class young academics and curators from abroad.
  • Deutsche Ornithologen-Gesellschaft e.V.  The German Ornithological Society (DO-G) provides research projects with budget for supplies and travelling. Projects of DO-G-members who are not based at universities and research institutes are prioritized.
  • SYNTHESYS This project comprises 20 european Natural History Museums, Universities and Botanic Gardens. It aims to create an integrated European infrastructure for researchers in the natural sciences and splits into three areas: Access, Networking and Joint Research Activities.
