About us

The Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI) is a part of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The objectives of the GTI are the provision of sufficient taxonomic capacities to fullfill the aims of the CBD, i.e. the protection and sustainable use of the components of biodiversity.

'Taxonomic capacities' are people, fully trained as taxonomist, as well as infrastructure, such as museums, library and online-databases.

More and detailed information on the GTI is available in Background.
